Airfield Safeguarding & Development in Aircraft Airports Resource Directory

The CAA has transferred safeguarding responsibilities to each aerodrome. New gislation for England and Wales and for Scotland came into effect on 10 Feb 03 esulting in all licensed aerodromes now having to safeguard themselves. Furthermore, it is the advice of HM Government within that legislation that all aerodromes, licensed and unlicensed, should be safeguarded. Northern Ireland has separate legislation For those that are uncertain of the meaning of safeguarding or how it could affect them, we offer the following short definition. It is the control of land use in order to protect the airspace over and around an aerodrome against developments that could adversely affect safe operations. A fuller explanation can be found in the appropriate legislation while our ticle published in the AOA Magazine looks at a wider picture.Naturally, those running rodromes are conscious of the requirements to protect the safety of their operations and that they have to take steps to do so. However, planners, architects, and evelopers may not be aware of possible limitations when considering sites near to aerodromes. ASD offers a range of services that can help those on both sides of the airport boundary fence
